 The World of Film in Australia - on the Internet Updated Tuesday July 28, 2020 


The creative and technical wizards behind Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Ice Age, Band of Brothers, Moulin Rouge and many more films, will gather in Sydney in February 2002 from around the world at the AEAF; you can attend, filmmakers can show their own work and can also enter the awards.

Appropriately enough, Session 1 Day 1 is devoted to The Lord of the Rings, with Jim Rygiel, VFX Supervisor, Weta Digital. Helping to create the mythical world of Middle Earth for Peter Jackson’s ambitions three movie adaptation of the Lord of The Rings, Weta Digital has been able to contribute crucial digital elements within the "cornucopia" of VFX techniques utilised within this film: forced perspective, digital matte painting, CGI, digital compositing, crowd generation, digital and miniature sets.

Later in the morning, there will be session on Ocean’s Eleven, The Time Machine and Red Planet.

Masterclasses, panel sessions and exclusive screenings fill the three day program, all topped off by the awards night and gala party. Key speakers include:

The AEAF Theatre will be located adjacent to the main auditorium. Throughout the 3-day convention, the AEAF Theatre will screen a variety of work by Australian and International 3D and VFX artists, producers, animators and students, including the compilation of all AEAF Awards submissions for the 2002 competition.

To have your work screened, please send a tape (Beta SP) to AEAF PO Box 250, Bondi Junction NSW 1355, with your contact details, and if you want your tape returned, please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope. To enter a submission is free, but there will be no royalties paid for screening.

Please note that the work you'll submit to the AEAF Theatre is not for competition judging (please submit work into the AEAF Awards for that!). Tapes must be received by Friday February 8, 2002.

You can enter as many individual entries as you wish, as long as they've been completed between July 1, 2000 and January 14, 2002.
