Australian composers will be seen and heard in all their musical diversity at the annual APRA – AGSC Screen Music Awards on November 6, 2006. The nominees range from Francois Tetaz for Wolf Creek to Guy Gross & John Palmer for Blinky Bill.

In the Feature Film Score of the Year category, NICK CAVE and WARREN ELLIS have been nominated for their work on The Proposition, as has FRANCOIS TETAZ for his haunting score for the creepy outback thriller Wolf Creek. BURKHARD DALLWITZ is nominated for his work on Caterpillar Wish and BRETT ROSENBERG is nominated for Half Light.

Multiple nominees include CHRIS LILLEY and BRYONY MARKS for We Can Be Heroes (Best Television Theme and Best Original Song Composed for the Screen). BURKHARD DALLWITZ is nominated three times – twice for Caterpillar Wish (Feature Film Score of the Year and Best Soundtrack Album) and in the category of Best Television Theme for his score for the Torino 2006 Winter Olympics. MICHAEL YEZERSKI is nominated three times, twice for Thursday’s Fictions (Best Soundtrack Album and Best Original Song Composed for the Screen). GUY GROSS and JOHN PALMER are nominated twice for Blinky Bill’s White Christmas – Christmas in Australia in the categories of Best Original Song Composed for the Screen and Best Music for Children’s Television. ELLIOTT WHEELER has nominations for separate compositions – Gloomy Valentine (Best Music for a Short Film) and for the McDonald’s Inner Child television commercial (Best Music for an Advertisement).

“This year’s selection of nominees reflects the rich talent and skills of Australian screen composers. The Awards celebrate the craft of writing music for the screen – a language of emotions that enhance storytelling. And this year is evidence to the prolific creativity of Australian composers. Congratulations to all the nominees”, said AGSC President Art Phillips.

A live orchestra, conducted by prolific musical director PAUL GRABOWSKY, will perform a selection of nominated compositions at the Awards presentation (November 6, City Recital Hall in Sydney).
