SCREEN MUSIC AWARDS 2006 - WINNERS

‘OWZAT FOR TETAZ
With only his second feature film score, for Wolf Creek, Francois Tetaz has won the coveted Feature Film Score of the Year award from his peers at this year’s Screen Music Awards, joining veteran composers Paul Grabowski (Documentary, Unfolding Florence) and Iva Davies (Telemovie, Mary Bryant).

Sydney’s Recital Hall in the heart of the CBD was the presentation venue this year, the stage occupied by Paul Grabowsky’s orchestra, as the film and tv industry paid its respects to the musos who turn films into emotional experiences. Unfortunately for us but good for him, big winner Francois Tetaz was unable to attend – he was attending the birth of his baby. (His first feature film score was for Under the Radar, 2004.)

Brett Cottle of APRA and Art Phillips of AGSC launched the proceedings, and presenters - including Wolf Creek star John Jarratt, producer Penny Chapman, director Gillian Armstrong, performer Libby Gore and musos Decoder Ring – added their voices to the complimentary nature of the evening.

As usual, the best part of these awards is that guests get to hear ample samples of the music composed for the screen, in the hands of a live orchestra, which is unlike most other film industry awards where the work itself seems to take second place to on stage antics.

Dinner was staged beautifully in the adjacent Westin Hotel’s ballroom, decorated with contempo table chandeliers and candles in a mood of light and air. Food wasn’t bad either….
