2/8/2012: KIMBLE RENDALL TO DIRECT $25 M BLOWBACK ACTION IN SYDNEY

Australian filmmaker, Kimble Rendall (whose Bait 3D has been selected for Venice, Aug 29 – Sept 8), has been signed to direct the high octane action thriller Blowback, for GFM Films, which is making the project with Australian producer Antony I. Ginnane as part of a joint venture, set to shoot in Sydney in the New Year with a budget of $25 million and headline casting.

Leading action & visual effects director Rendall is best known for directing sequences for such films as Ghost Rider, Killer Elite, iRobot and all three films in the Matrix franchise.

Written by Australian action movie maestro Brian Trenchard-Smith, Blowback follows ex-Special Forces Op, David Craig, as he takes his 15 year old daughter, Marcy, to Sydney to show her where he met and fell in love with her late mother. When Marcy is mistakenly abducted, simply by being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Craig is given just 72 hours to get her back in once piece.

Guy Collins of GFM Films commented ‘Mike Ryan and I have known Tony Ginnane for many years and between us have worked successfully on six movies, the last being the Peter Weller Si-Fi Screamers released by Triumph Films for Sony. Tony introduced the script to us at the AFM last November and we both felt it to be a very commercial, action packed page turner. Kimble was the first director to be approached and we are delighted that he has agreed to join the movie. Feedback from distributors on Kimble’s previous work has been very positive.”

Ginnane said “It is incredibly exciting to be moving forward with Guy, Mike, Fred and Kimble on a film that will blend the iconic sights of Sydney with the adrenalin rush of Brian’s action packed pages.”

Rendall added: ‘Over the last ten years I have been working for Hollywood studios on summer blockbusters. Tony sent me the Blowback script and here was an opportunity to work on a great action movie in my home town of Sydney for the first time showcasing this amazing city as the backdrop to a world class action thriller. Bring it on!”
