SMALLFOOT

SYNOPSIS:
A Yeti (Channing Tatum) is convinced that the elusive creatures known as 'humans' really do exist.

Review by Louise Keller:
The film's high-concept is its drawcard, offering the filmmakers to turn the focus of this cute animation on ourselves, amid a climate of fake news, racism and celebrity. Based on Sergio Pablos's book Yeti Tracks, the tale canvasses the origins of its primitive yeti society, the beliefs of which alone are enough to warrant a look. The combo of bright songs and cutting sense of humour will appeal to both the young and young at heart.

The narrative follows the heroic yeti Migo (Channing Tatum), heir to the coveted job of Gong Ringer (Danny DeVito), and when distracted by the lovely Princess Meechee (singer, Zendaya), witnesses a plane crash and the resulting contact with a human. 'Look at your small foot; oh my gosh, it's a Smallfoot', he shrieks). Consequences follow as he is met with disbelief from the yeti community. As he sets out to prove what he has seen, there is plenty of shrieking, tumbling in the snow and expressions like 'holy lowness' (try saying that a couple of times quickly) as the film plays out to its 'not every legend is a tall tale' promise.

If Smallfoot leaves a big enough footprint, who knows: a franchise may result.
